Program Description:

With the recent passage of H.R. 1 into law, the U.S. health care system is facing significant changes, including substantial cuts to Medicaid. In Washington state, an estimated 250,000 people could lose their insurance coverage. The most affected populations are expected to include children, older adults and people with disabilities. At this year’s Fall Summit, we will examine what the proposed cuts to Medicaid and other health care programs mean for nurses, as well as the surrounding ethical implications.

To help guide this conversation, we’ll hear from two guest speakers. Justin Gill, DNP, ARNP, RN, president of the Washington State Nurses Association, will address the association’s response to H.R. 1 and a recent ANA resolution. Jamie Shirley, PhD, RN, from the University of Washington Bothell, will examine the ethical implications of the policy changes for nursing practice.

Nurses in Action (pending approval): Following the presentation, we will assemble about 400 cold/flu kits for Real Change newspaper vendors.
