Kayak Skills - First Strokes for Beginners - Fivemiletown - Fridays - October 2025Follow the Erne Paddlers Kayak Winter Pool Series - from Beginners First Strokes to Rolling Step by Step. We will run four progressive consecutive blocks over the autumn and winter months to build your skills and confidence.
The first course, this one, (i) Beginners First Strokes will take place in October. Each course that follows will further develop your ability to paddle - (ii) Capsize with Confidence, (iii) Support Strokes to Stay Upright and finally (iv) Kayak Rolling Step by Step.

Who this course is for:
Suitable for anyone aged 13yrs+.
No previous experience necessary and no need to be able to swim.
This is an inclusive course - if you need extra support to take part please get in touch to see how we can help.
What you will learn:
Basic paddling techniques
Launching and landing safely
Kayak stability and body positioning
Basic safety and rescue skills
Coached by our friendly, experienced instructors in a supportive way, this course is perfect for anyone new to kayaking. Over five weekly progressive sessions, participants build knowledge, ability and confidence.

Fridays: 10, 17, 24, 31 October, AND 7 November.
Times: 8:40pm –9:45pm (8:45pm - 9:45pm in the pool)

Fivemiletown Community Annex
Equipment:
We provide: Kayaks, paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets.
You bring: Shorts/swimsuit and a t-shirt for the pool, a towel and a dry set of clothes to change into afterwards.
Facilities:
There are toilets and changing facilities available, as well as parking.
