We are thrilled to announce an author event in collaboration with Tomorrow Bookstore and Indiana Humanities: Welcoming back to Indy, poet, author, and Butler MFA alum (’15) Kaveh Akbar for an event on January 28th, 2025!
The event will take place from 7-9 pm at the Indiana Landmarks’ Grand Hall.
Akbar, renowned for his poetry and his 2024 National Book Award Finalist novel, “Martyr!”, will be in conversation with Professor Aila Hoss, an Indianapolis-based attorney, professor, and writer.
"The best novel you'll ever read about the joy of language, addiction, displacement, martyrdom, belonging, homesickness." --Lauren Groff, best-selling author of Matrix and Fates and Furies
Akbar was born in Tehran, Iran, and teaches at the University of Iowa and in the low-residency MFA programs at Randolph College and Warren Wilson. He received an MFA in Creative Writing from Butler University in 2015.
Hoss teaches, researches, and advocates at the intersection of health law and federal Indian law. Her creative writing explores issues regarding law and academia. She is an active member of the Indiana bar and proud Iranian-American.
Tickets are free, but we encourage a $10 donation per attendee or the purchase of a copy of the author’s book from Tomorrow Bookstore.
