Olympic Harriers and Athletics Wellington proudly present the Second Edition of the Kaukau Skyline Traverse, incorporating the 2025 Wellington Mountain Running Championships.
The races will take place on the western hills of Johnsonville along the Skyline Track over Mt Kaukau.
Races start and finish at the northern end of the Skyline Track heading south along the ridgeline to Mt Kaukau and beyond. All races are ‘out and back’ each with a turn-around point. The long course includes an additional challenging loop (clockwise) before turning around.
Race distances and approximate ascents are:
· Race 1: 11:00am Long course 12.15km (600m)
· Race 2: 11:10am Medium course 8.75km (400m)
· Race 3: 11:20am Short course 5.75km (220m)
· Race 4: 11:30am Sprint course 1.75km (70m)
Championship runners must be registered with an Athletics Wellington club, wear their club uniform and run in the correct race according to their age grade. Non-championship runners can run in any race. You must be 18 years or older to run in races 1 or 2.
On a good day running the Skyline with views across Wellington and the South Island are amazing! And on a bad day…exhilarating !!!!
