Raised in an artistic environment, as her mother is Dee Dee Bridgewater and her father - director Gilbert Moses - from a young age she tried her hand at theaters, modeling, and in front of the microphone. And it was singing that became China's main profession. She recorded her first single when she was 18. She started with the then popular R&B.As the years passed, China Moses slowly added blues and jazz elements to her repertoire. These preferences culminated in the album - "Tribute", in memory of Dinah Washington: "This one's for Dinah" (2009). Supposedly, Dee Dee Bridgewater with little China once visited Dinah Washington herself in her dressing room. The artist looked at the little girl and said to Dee Dee: " She's gonna be a singer. She's definitely gonna be a singer ". The prophecy came true, and China Moses, fascinated by the suggestiveness of blues compositions, recorded a neat tribute to the memory of the great Dinah Washington when she grew up.
A literal “citizen of the world,” China has performed in over 800 concerts on six continents over the past 12 years. She has performed at Ronnie Scott’s, Jazz Café, Barbican Centre and Royal Albert Hall in London, Olympia, UNESCO International Jazz Day and La Cigale in Paris, Vienna Konzerthaus, Berlin Opernhaus, Elbphilharmonie and Dresdner Philharmonie in Germany, and Birdland and Nublu in New York. One of her hidden skills is being a powerful researcher – as a performing and recording artist, broadcast professional and international educator. She is a member of the 2013 graduating class of the Franco-American Foundation Young Leader, holds the title of Chevalier of St Emilion & Bergerac, and has applied her knowledge as a panelist at the 2020 Montreux Jazz Academy.
China Moses's strong, sensual vocals, swinging arrangements that take us back in time and a diverse character: from misty ballads to energizing and danceable songs - this is a recipe for a great concert and unforgettable experiences at the NOSPR in Katowice. We recommend and invite you!
