We are so excited we get the opportunity to bring Marques Morel to the Octopus. We played with him last year and he blew us away. Read more about the show below!!!
About Marques Morel:
Marques Morel is an American songwriter/story-teller, midwestern-twanger/folksinger, guitar-thumper/harmonica wailer, street-performer/wandering troubadour, steadfast woodcutter/migrant worker, a father, a son, and a friend to all.
“Taking his cue from the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams, and any number of other tattered troubadours, (Marques Morel) sounds like a cross between Johnny Cash, Bob Seger, and the late John Stewart (solo, The Kingston Trio) reciting ragged tales of the American West and its once-former glories,” writes Lee Zimmerman of The Alternate Root.
About KTHT:
Honky Tonk is a funny thing. It’s the only musical form that also describes where you’ll hear it and how you’ll be dancing while the band plays. It’s made for breaking bottles over broken hearts while whiskey flows and fists fly.
Katie Sires and her band of Honky Tonks (oh yeah it also describes the band) hail from Waterloo, Iowa. They embody the classic spirit of honky tonk music. The band’s signature sound is characterized by Katie’s emotive vocals, delivering heartbreakingly beautiful melodies and honest, storytelling lyrics. KTHT are anchored by Brian McCarty, whose bass provides a solid backbone and he adds depth with harmonies. Luke Sires contributes with his energetic drumming and contagious energy. Bryan Hendrickson completes the Honky Tonks ensemble, wielding his highly modified Telecaster and Lap Steel Guitar to deliver the leads and solos that define the genre.
