We’re delighted to welcome Kathryn and her long-time collaborator and accordionist Amy Thatcher for a special evening of jigs, reels, heart-wrenching airs, and percussive clog dancing!
Recognised as the foremost exponent of the Northumbrian pipes, Kathryn Tickell is a composer, performer, educator and successful recording artist, whose work is deeply rooted in the landscape and people of Northumbria.
She has released 16 of her own albums to date and has also recorded and performed with Sting, Jacob Collier, The Chieftains, Penguin Café Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta and many others. In 2015, she was awarded the OBE for services to folk music. She has twice won ‘Musician of the Year’ at the BBC Folk Awards. Kathryn is also a regular presenter for BBC Radio 3’s popular roots music programme Music Planet.
The formidably talented Amy Thatcher is an extraordinary accordionist - and clog dancer - who has worked with Kathryn in her various bands and projects including folk-classical quartet The Side and the current touring big band The Darkening. Amy is also a member of The Monster Ceilidh Band.
