About this Event
The east coast meets west this evening with the jazz trio of Miami-based vocalist Kate Reid and Mountain West instrumentalists Alex Sjobeck (piano) and Braun Khan (bass). Come join us for an evening of favorite jazz standards from the Great American Songbooks of Gershwin, Porter and Kern, gems from the jazz masters including Ellington and Mingus and the Brazilian classics of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Sérgio Mendes. Come join us for some fun musical conversation over your favorite jazz tunes!
Kate has worked with many great jazz musicians across the country including pianists Fred Hersch, Taylor Eigsti, Otmaro Ruiz, guitarists Romero Lubambo, Paul Meyers, Gene Bertoncini, Ron Eschete, Larry Koonse, Bruce Forman, John Hart and drummers Roy McCurdy and Jamey Tate. She has also appeared with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Jon Hendricks, John Clayton, John Daversa.
Reid’s multifaceted career also includes work as a studio and session singer in Los Angeles. Her film credits include Planes, Star Trek Into Darkness, Oz-The Great and Powerful, Epic and Men In Black III, featuring the music of composers Danny Elfman, Michael Giacchino, John Powell and Joel McNeely. She has lent her voice to several network television series, to commercial spots for Ace Hardware, T-Mobile, and Suntory Whiskey, and to recordings by such artists as MUSE, X Japan and Josh Groban.
“Reid has a smoky alto voice that achieves a rare intimacy with the listener. She’s also a highly skilled improviser.” Downbeat
“Equally talented as a pianist, her phrasing reveals how she hears the lyric as not only a vocalist but an instrumentalist that clearly understands the value of the language of jazz.’’ JazzTimes
“Reid does not sing songs, she tells stories and embraces the music in a very intimate and genuine fashion that lends an immediate air of self assurance and confidence in one of the finest vocalists working the scene today.“ Bop-n-Jazz
