The Kate Ratliff Memorial Conference honors the legacy of Dr. Kate Ratliff, assistant professor of clinical psychology and advocate for ethical integrity, compassion, and social justice. This interdisciplinary event brings together clinicians, educators, students, and community members to explore how ethics and empathy guide care, learning, and human responsibility in a rapidly changing world.

The day begins with opening remarks and a keynote address by Robert Jackson, internationally recognized educator, author, and speaker. Jackson will share insights on bridging the gap between educators, families, and students—particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds—through empathy, accountability, and action.

After an included luncheon, attendees may choose from three concurrent breakout sessions:

  • An interactive workshop about supporting immigrant learners and communities through social capacity building across the lifespan
  • A presentation and discussion about ethical considerations for AI use in the helping professions considering the use of Griefbots for coping with loss (Continuing Education Credit is Available)
  • A presentation and discussion positioning literacy as an essential tool of community infrastructure considering literacy issues of access, representation, forms of expression

The afternoon concludes with a student showcase session highlighting research, service projects, and creative initiatives from University of Indianapolis students. This interactive session will feature exhibits, research presentations, and an interactive collaborative art project offering opportunities for connection and collaboration.

Join us as we honor Dr. Ratliff’s enduring message: that integrity, empathy, and ethical action are at the heart of every profession dedicated to human care and understanding.
