Please join us for our monthly chapter meeting on Monday, October 13, 2025 at 7:00 PM when we welcome the legendary Kate Davis who will be presenting her talk: Almost Forty Years of Raptor Programs (and Other Projects).Raptors of the Rockies Director Kate Davis will present a retrospective look at a life with birds and the remarkable education program that began in 1988. Through an action-packed PowerPoint, we’ll learn how she got started and has inspired adults and children by sharing her stories and captive raptors. We’ll meet the birds through the years, explore the facilities, and discuss the new ranch transformation and challenges for 2025. We’ll also discuss her other projects like photography, writing and illustrating seven books, and creating artwork from welded sculptures to etchings. Kate will have raptors stars along like Peregrine and Golden Eagle that were here at the last Raptors of the Rockies presentation to Five Valleys Audubon Society 14 years ago, as well as owl favorites. We’ll try to fit all this in an hour, folks!
Years ago, Kate Davis remembers someone at her 1,000th education program shouting, “See you at number 2000!” That seemed inconceivable, at the time, but she is getting close. Kate acquired the proper federal and state permits back in 1988 when she was at a rental property in Clinton. Her Raptor Ranch in Florence was purchased in 2001 along the banks of the Bitterroot River. Using her design, carpenters have built all new enclosures for the non-releasable and falconry birds - falcons, hawks, eagles, and owls. This “Teaching Team” accompanies her all over the state for presentations for school children and the public, totaling over 140,000 participants and 145 schools, plus PowerPoints across the country. After the Audubon talk, as in every single program, we’ll all hoot up an owl as a finale. You won’t want to miss this!
The meeting will be held in Room 110 in the Interdisciplinary Sciences Building (ISB) on the University of Montana campus. The building lies on the south end of campus on Beckwith Avenue between Maurice and Mansfield avenues. You also have the option of watching the meeting over the following Zoom link:
