‘Black Land’: The History of Freedom Farms on the Canadian Prairies This talk focuses on the history of Black farms on the Canadian Prairies between 1872-1920 and the crucial role farms and farming have played in the freedom struggles of Black people in Canada and beyond. As this talk reveals, Black farms and Black farmers matter: farms have been key sites where Black folks have found reconnection with land, as well as healing, cooperation, and liberation for Black communities.
