Karen’s Bio:
Raised among the rolling hills and farms of rural Carroll County, I gained an early appreciation for the landscapes around me. An old barn, a field in fall color and the beauty of a sunset all inspired me. A few years ago, I discovered soft pastels and I fell in love instantly. The immediacy of color application with no brush or other medium, the range of hues from which to choose all drew me in. My pastel collection grew and I soon found myself painting almost daily. My preferred subject to paint is landscapes, capturing the variations in color, light and texture. Farm scenes with old barns are a favorite of mine. I love to travel and often take my pastels or photograph my trip for reference photos. Painting is therapy to me, I truly believe the words of Thomas Merton, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”
Workshop Description:
Join Karen Peck to draw a Fall Landscape in Pastel. Explore painting with soft pastels through the process of layering to create a beautiful fall landscape of your choice. Learn about using a variety of hard to soft pastels, paper choices, the underpainting processes, mark making, and layering, followed by a demonstration just before creating your very own masterpiece. Please bring your own fall landscape photos for reference.
Materials Students Should Bring from home:

old cloth and apron
soft pastels in a variety of colors (amazon sells- Rembrandt, Mungyo, Sennelier, Mount Vision, Jack Richeson)
pastel paper preferably sanded and white or cream in color (amazon sells U-Art, Pastel Premier, Canson Mi-Teintes, Luxarchival, Pastel mat)
backing board
