Karawane (pronounced kara-va-neh) are global music DJs, producers, change-makers, and party starters, focused on bringing people together through the primal bonds of rhythm and sound. Celebrating music without borders, they have been instrumental in bringing a new sound and attitude to the scene in the Scottish Highlands via their residencies, touring parties, radio shows, live streams, festival performances, and support of Craig Charles' Funk & Soul Show. Most recently they launched the Karawane Takeover events in Inverness, hosting live percussion and bands alongside the DJ sets, and playing to a packed venue of dancers from all ages and backgrounds.
After years of playing in South and Central America, Spain, Sweden, and Germany, they have built a unique soundscape of world dance-floor culture. Since returning to Scotland in 2018, they have gathered a loyal following of 'Karawanistas' who make up a diverse and international audience at their events from Lochinver Village Hall to Kelburn Festival and clubs from Berlin to Reykjavik. Their uplifting sound has been a positive force for change and they continue to host fundraising events for charities such as Choose Love, the Highland Migrant & Refugee Advocacy, Highlands Supports Refugees and Last Night A DJ Saved My Life.
Growing up playing roots reggae sound systems, funk and soul nights and hip hop clubs in Scotland, Karawane have a solid background in underground music culture, and their 20 years living and working abroad and collecting music from around the world has added a new dimension to their dancefloor. Expect floor-shaking afrobeat, hip-swaying salsa, dancefloor funk to brassy ska, bouncy reggae, tropical cumbia and Caribbean island sounds with all the brassy bits in the middle. Karawane nights are an opportunity to take a shared journey and to cut loose with friends old and new.
Comments on social media from Karawane regulars:
“What you are doing and what you have achieved is so wonderful. No boundaries, all ages, creeds, persuasions, backgrounds and walks of life. Just the love of music. You can feel acceptance and connection as the evening builds and grows. Lovely experience, great people, the best vibe. Thank you truly “ (Mo King)
“I've been to a few of your gigs and have had happiness spread throughout my whole being - so needed. It's profound medicine” (Deborah Jay Lewin)
