An introduction to the striking techniques of Japanese Karate, suitable for absolute beginners, students of other martial arts, and for Seido Karate students looking to deepen their understanding of body mechanics and applications.Ask a random person on the street about karate and their answer might involve the famous "karate chop", but knifehand techniques have become de-emphasized as sport karate -- essentially Western-style boxing plus kicks -- has risen to prominence. While we'll spend some time talking about punches and kicks, this seminar will focus on the techniques you're not allowed to use in competition -- i.e., all the good stuff! We'll talk about strategy and application, and about the musculoskeletal anatomy that powers strikes and creates natural weapons like the knifehand, the ridgehand, the fist and its variants (hammer-fist, backfist), the elbow, the knee, and the various striking surfaces of the foot.
No experience necessary! This class can serve as an introduction to our Seido Karate program, or as an opportunity for more advanced students to get a new perspective on some points.
The cost for this seminar is $35, but no one will be turned away for financial reasons.
