What is Karapu Toi Tāhine - Gender Creative Club?
A weekly social club for gender diverse / rainbow youth ages 5-13 and their families.
Who are the facilitators?
Homeschool parents who are LGBTQIA+, and are parents/caregivers of gender creative children.
What can we expect?
An inclusive social atmosphere that is rainbow, and neurodiversity friendly, that acknowledges and includes the intersectional threads of each identity in the group, a space where autonomy, expression, and belonging is nurtured, and a place where we can share our interests and support one another.
Each week we will have several rainbow inclusion activities on offer as invitations (no pressure to participate and full permission to share the space and resources how you feel to). These activities will each have a creative element to them. Te Reo Māori and NZSL will be included where possible. We will also have a story each week that supports our kaupapa of gender diverse validity and belonging.
Where will this be held?
At our home based inclusive learning centre in Bayview. We have a resource packed classroom lounge space, fenced yard, trampoline, 2 rāpeti/ rabbits, a maarakai/a garden, hammocks (in Raumāti/summer), and a ngāhere/native forest next to our home.
Is there a cost?
There is a suggested donation of $5 cash per family towards craft resources and tea/coffee/plant based mylks.
How many families can attend?
We are aiming for 3-4 families at this stage and can look at a bigger location if needed in time.
If you would like to be involved or know of a family who may be interested please get in touch!
P.S. Date and time is fluid in nature, once we have a few families interested we will start a poll to gauge what works well time wise for our families.
