Karachi, Pakistan's bustling metropolis is where the symphony of culture and history reaches a crescendo. With a population exceeding 20 million, Karachi stands as one of the largest and most diverse cities in the region. Its rich history dates back centuries, shaping the unique character we see today. Everywhere you turn, you'll encounter a vibrant mix of colors, sounds, and flavors that make Karachi one-of-a-kind cocktail.
Traversing the streets, the mosaic of Karachi's architecture reveals itself, a testament to its rich heritage. Elegant minarets rise to the sky, whispering stories of ancient empires and faith. Scattered across the cityscape are grand colonial structures, remnants of the British Raj, seamlessly merging with contemporary designs that exemplify the modern era. List is long, but its here where you will find Mazar-e-Quaid mausoleum, an homage to Pakistan's founding father, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mohatta Palace, a splendid symbol of Indo-Islamic architecture.
No exploration of Karachi would be complete without savoring its culinary delights. From the famous biryanis to lip-smacking street food like gol gappas and delicious kebabs. Don't forget to indulge in a refreshing glass of Karachi's renowned fresh fruit juice, made from an assortment of local fruits.
Mumtaz Begum, a resident of Karachi zoo, is a fascinating creature - half woman and half fox. Blessed with the unique ability to see the future and provide advice, Mumtaz Begum is a mystifying presence that is both intriguing and enigmatic. Despite her otherworldly appearance, Mumtaz Begum exudes an aura of tranquillity and wisdom. She is renowned for her peaceful disposition and gentle demeanour, making those who approach her feel at ease.
Mangho Pir shrine, dedicated to the 13th-century Sufi saint Haji Syed Shaikh Sultan, is not just a typical religious site—it's also home to a fascinating lake with hot springs inhabited by over 100 marsh crocodiles, which are considered sacred and closely connected to the saint's legacy. Visitors who come to pay their respects often bring food for these crocodiles, who are believed to be the disciples of Saint.
Let’s go!
DAY 1
Meeting at T2 for 2hrs direct flight to Karachi, immigration, overnight in the hotel.
DAY 2
City exploration: visit of Mazar-e-Quaid’s House and Mausoleum, TDF Ghar (Heritage house – witness of Karachi golden era of 60s and 70s). Time for some fortune telling with Mumtaz Begum, followed by Mangho Pir shrine. Lunch at legendary 100 years old colonial restaurant and continue the stroll through curiosities, bazaars and bustling streets.
DAY 3
Begin our drive in the morning towards Thatta. Along the way, we ll make a stop to visit the Chaukindi Tombs, which were constructed between the 15th and 18th centuries using sandstone. These tombs are all rectangular in shape and showcase exquisite carvings. Each burial site for men features intricately carved turbans on top, while the women's graves exhibit stunning jewelry also carved on the sandstone.
Continue drive to Banbhore, inhabited by Central Asian Scythians and Parthians. Banbhore became the final conquest of Alexander the Great, who unfortunately met his demise while journeying further across Iran. Site holds the distinction of being one of the first Islamic city, conquered by Arabs in 711 AD under the leadership of Mohammad Bin Qasim. During this time, the city witnessed construction of the first mosque in Southeast Asia.
Further on we hit the road to Makli, the largest Muslim cemetery that houses over half a million graves of scholars, poets, ministers, kings, and wealthy individuals from the 15th to the 18th century. During this time, Thatta served as a center of education and literature and was also the capital of Sindh.
The city is also home to the majestic Shah Jehan Mosque, which was built in 1647, just two years after the Taj Mahal. Shah Jehan constructed this mosque as a token of gratitude to the people of Thatta for their hospitality when he was escaping from the enemy. This mosque is an impressive masterpiece of blue glazed tile work and stands as the best-preserved mosque from this era.
