KANKUEB: Dance of the Maya
Journey through the multiple dimensions of your being with Kankueb, a somatic dance ritual that is based on the meditation and energy management techniques of the Maya. Passed down through oral tradition by generations of Maya Aj’Q’ijab (spiritual guides and daykeepers), Kankueb is a sophisticated system of conscious movement that holds the wisdom of teaching practitioners how to activate the energy channels and vortices of their body – which are housed in the spine, joints, fingers and toes, according to Mesoamerican shamanic tradition. From the outside, Kankueb is a sensual dance that spirals, undulates, and pulses in rhythmic waves; but internally, the consciousness of the body is being moved by the sinuous energy of our inner Kukulkan, the feathered serpent, an archetype that represents our fullest potential, creativity, and vital life force.
In this three-hour practice you will be introduced to:
- A brief overview of Maya cosmovision and the Chol Q’ij, the sacred calendar used by Maya spiritual guides in fire ceremony and daily ritual
- Oxoma: Meditations and visualizations that anchor the mind into the multidimensional aspects of the body
- Dance of the 7 Kankuebs: patterns of joint and spinal movements that enhance biomechanical and somatic intelligence
- Closing sound bath with live flute and shamanic drum
Get ready to unleash the fierce power and ancestral wisdom of your body!
