Kaniksu Folk School is an initiative of Kaniksu Land Trust that offers traditional skills courses for adults, families, and children. Each class may have age restrictions.
Come learn to carve and paint a little gnome for your home! Students will learn the basics of how to carve small wooden figures in the Scandinavian tradition of flat plane figure carving, a unique carving style in which only one knife is used and the flat facets from carving are what defines the sculptural form. Each student will be given a pre-cut wooden blank to work with. Shaun will discuss the flat plane carving tradition and the ideal tools and materials needed to get started in this craft. Example carvings will be provided for inspiration. No prior carving experience required. Knives, wood and Kevlar safety gloves will be provided.
