Kaniksu Folk School is an initiative of Kaniksu Land Trust that offers traditional skills courses for adults, families, and children. Each class may have age restrictions.Learn basic wood carving techniques by carving the Scandinavian toy horse that has become the informal national symbol of Sweden. Known today as a “Dala” horse, the name is short for Dalarna, the province in central Sweden where these carved horses
were made for nearly two centuries. The Dala horse is a great practice piece for the aspiring wood carver and also makes a great gift or holiday decoration. Students will be given a rough-cut horse figure to shape and smooth with a carving knife. Knives and a cut-resistant safety glove will be provided. No previous carving experience required.
