Join us at Patchogue Arts Council • MOCA LI for the unveiling of “Kaleidoscope Of Grief”, featuring a captivating collection of all new works and an in-gallery mural installation by Amanda Reilly. The exhibition opens on November 23rd from 5-7pm and runs through December 1st. This collection of colorful and surrealistic die-cut butterfly paintings explore different stages of grief and create a discussion of how imperative it is to represent mental health conversations through art in our own communities.
“Kaleidoscope of Grief” takes viewers on a visual journey through a lens of the artist’s own experiences. Each individual painting is part of a larger grief healing story representing the complexities and overwhelming emotions of shock, denial, anger, bargaining, guilt, depression, acceptance and hope. The transformative symbolism of the butterfly within this exhibition acts as a visual metaphor to explain how the stages of grief are not linear in how they look, feel or how as individuals we express them.
Visitors can also attend a special artist-led discussion panel themed Exploring Grief Through Art from 4-5pm before the opening reception in-person or registered virtually. Featuring artists and curators Jessica Valentin @ratgrrl_ and Brianna Hernandez @briannalhb.
Don’t miss this display of Amanda’s paintings this November and get to experience parts of her journey and mind through her art. Visit Patchogue Arts Council • MOCA L.I. to see “Kaleidoscope Of Grief” with an in-person artist meet and greet at the opening reception.
This exhibition is made possible with funding through the New York State Council for the Arts Support for Artists @nyscouncilonthearts grant awarded to Amanda Reilly for her 2024 project Kaleidoscope Of Grief. The Support for Artists grant showcases the power of the individual by enabling them to successfully realize their visions with support of a fiscal sponsor.
