About this Event

Jump into the spring season boots-first on March 2 at the Moody Center for the Arts!

THEBROSFRESH open for singer-songwriter Kaitlin Butts at this year’s Spring Fling, the Moody’s free annual outdoor concert. Along with after-hours access to the current exhibition Hayv Kahraman: The Foreign in Us and complimentary drinks from Saint Arnold’s Brewery, Spring Fling 2024 promises to be a culturally rich and unique experience, emblematic of Houston’s dynamic arts scene.

In its fifth year, Spring Fling has presented regional talent like the Ton Tons, People Museum, The Bright Light Social Club, and others as a part of the Moody’s programming, designed to connect Rice University and the broader public through the arts. By providing a dynamic venue to showcase regional bands and offering free access to the concert and art exhibition, the Moody ensures Rice is a part of the local community, regional culture, and national conversation about how higher education can enrich public life.

About the Artists

Praised by NPR, Rolling Stone, and Billboard for her “powerful and chilling voice,” and her songwriting prowess, Kaitlin Butts's talent for balancing delicate vocals and strong musicianship has generated a sizable following. Released in April 2022, her latest album What Else Can She Do rose to top 10 Albums on the Americana Albums Chart and continues to receive widespread critical acclaim.

Raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Butts attended the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (founded in 2009 by Steven Drozd and Scott Booker, the guitarist and manager of the Flaming Lips). She cut her first record, Same Hell, Different Devil, with producer Mike McClure at his Boohatch Studio in 2015. The release of singles "White River," "How Lucky Am I," "White River (Remix)," and "Marfa Lights" soon followed. The release of What Else Can She Do finds the songwriter at the height of her powers.

Twin brothers Torrence and Thurman Thomas make up the eclectic New Orleans-born, Austin-based duo, THEBROSFRESH. Showcasing sounds that pay homage to their R&B/soul, southern hip-hop, and rock upbringing, the group brings a new perspective on what's "southern". Hard-hitting percussion and aural aggression meet a smooth sensibility in their innovative singles like “Your Energy” and “Montopolis Drive.” Their latest song “Toxic Chemistry,” released this year, draws from their wide array of influences including Prince, Pharrell, and John Mayer. The brothers are also the founders of the nonprofit Tankproof, which offers zero-cost swimming lessons and food security for kids across the United States.
