Get ready for an unforgettable evening at The Coffee Bar on Friday, October 25, as we welcome Kaia Kater—one of the most captivating voices in contemporary folk. A JUNO winner and critically acclaimed banjoist, Kaia blends roots music, jazz, and storytelling into songs that are both deeply personal and universally resonant. Her performances are known for their intimacy, soul, and stunning musicianship, weaving together tradition and innovation in a way that feels timeless yet fresh.
Born in Montreal with family roots in Grenada, Kaia was raised on both Canadian folk traditions and the rich legacy of Appalachian music. She studied at West Virginia’s Davis & Elkins College, where she deepened her connection to old-time banjo playing, and has since toured internationally, performing on renowned stages such as the Kennedy Center, Newport Folk Festival, and London’s Southbank Centre. With critically acclaimed albums like Nine Pin and Grenades, she has earned a reputation as an artist who pushes the boundaries of folk while honoring its past.
