
Kahlil Gibran’s Timeless Classic The Prophet celebrates it’s 100th Anniversary
To celebrate the 100th year of the The Prophet the newly formed Gibran Associates will be performing extracts from The Prophet with live music and dance at venues across London in September and October this year.
Since it’s first publication in September 1923 the book has sold over 100 million copies worldwide and been translated into over 50 languages worldwide and has been translated into over 50 languages. It has been an inspiration to many with passages from the book being recited often at weddings marriages and funerals
The Prophet comprises 26 poetic essays. It tells the story of the prophet Al-Mustafa who just before his sad departure from the city of Orphalese and his return to his original homeland is asked to speak his wisdom to the populace bemoaning his departure. The Prophet’s text narrates his direct response to a series of questions posed to him on subjects such as Love Death Beauty Freedom Self-Knowledge Joy and Sorrow Work Marriage Children Crime and Punishment etc.. Its exquisite poetic imagery and profound wisdom still inspires to this day and will continue to do so for generations to come.
