About the ShowWelcome to an energetic and engaging two act show combining ‘Kafka Cola’, the surreal, unsettling tales from Dino Buzzati as told by actor Matas Danielus, together with the soulful and moving original poem-songs in ‘FEAR + FREEDOM’ by vocalist Empress Jade, guitarist Kaiah Miller and dancer Yu-Chien (Zoe) Cheng.

Multiple fascinating, funny or frightening stories are from the famous collection of short stories by Dino Buzzati, with hints of Alexis Michalik and Lou Reed.
It all starts with a birthday, just before we suddenly realise that time is running out...
And the stories follow one another, wrapped around the three major themes of our existence: Creation, Love and Destiny.

FEAR + FREEDOM
The audience is invited to a spectrum of performances inspired by fear, love, anguish, regret, freedom, liberation.
A journey of original songs and poems by Empress Jade, this colourful, moving aural-visual mosaic is co-created with guitarist Kaiah Miller and contemporary dancer Yu-Chien (Zoe) Cheng.
7 original pieces form an emotional and multi-sensory trajectory for the audience to afterwards reflect on and be energised by.
Before the show, audience members can choose to contribute words linked to the theme ‘FEAR + FREEDOM’, from which during the show, a new piece will be spontaneously created.
About Matas Danielius (Kafka Cola)
Born in Lithuania, Matas Danielius's desire for freedom and self-expression has been a driving force in his life. It naturally led him to acting.
Graduated in Drama at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, Matas discovered the work of Antonin Artaud, Jerzy Grotowski, Tatsumi Hijikata, Yoshi Oida, and Michael Chekhov, which greatly influenced his performance style and shaped my personality.
Over the past decade, Matas have had the opportunity to work on a range of groundbreaking projects as an actor, director, producer (Useful Idiots), and writer.
About Empress Jade, Kaiah Miller, Yu-Chien (Zoe) Cheng (FEAR + FREEDOM)
- Empress Jade is a vocalist, performing artist of original songs and poems, and creates immersive, thought-provoking, multi-arts experiences. In Thailand, she regularly performs improvised and prepared pieces in various iconic venues, has acted in comedy-dramas by Ekkolo Theatre, and created several feature-length performances collaborating with art galleries. In Australia, Empress Jade wrote and performed shows including in the Sydney Fringe Festival.
- Guitarist & song-writer Kaiah Miller is known for his ability to instil soulful and melodic elements into many songs, across a wide range of genres. He plays regularly across Bangkok’s live music venues and has featured in several music festivals. He was a co-founder and guitarist in Dirty Magic, a Bangkok-based band distributed by Warner Music Thailand.
- Yu-Chien (Zoe) Cheng is an accomplished dance and movement artist, producer and educator from Taiwan. With residencies in New York and Shanghai, she has collaborated and performed extensively in the USA, China & Taiwan, including founding Inch Dance and Shanghai improvisation Festival. Zoe is now based in Bangkok teaching creative movement, traditional Chinese dance, facilitating Contact Improvisation classes and continuing to perform.
