It was destined to be, wasn’t it? A collaboration between the Amsterdam venue Melkweg and Kaboom was inevitable. Well, you see, a big BOOM created the Milky Way (or de Melkweg), so let’s say the two hold a strong connection. Kaboom Animation Festival is the one-stop shop for the latest and greatest in all things animated and an immense showcase for animation – ranging from cutting-edge experimental arthouse to crowd-pleasing colourful stories for the whole family. From February onwards, Kaboom is hosting a monthly anime film screening at Melkweg, the venue that feels the same way about anime as the festival. Arguably the greatest film genre of all, anime – as aficionados know – always had the power of presenting the strongest of allegories, of being bold, wicked, creative, sweet, and meaningful at the same time. Originated in Japan, anime has grown into one of the now-most ubiquitous cultural properties of the 21st century. International popularity and demand of anime have only risen during the pandemic. Anime is flaming hot, now more than ever!Join Kaboom at Melkweg for a six-part journey along the coast of Anime Kingdom. It’s going to be wild, epic and even cathartic.
