Newtown Community Centre - Te Whare Hapori o ngā Puna Waiora welcome you to celebrate Matariki, Te Reo Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi with us!
Traditionally, Matariki was a time when food stores had been built up, which meant more free time for whānau and communities to spend together. People would get together to share kai, kōrero, ceremony and entertainment, and look forward to the new year ahead.
With that in mind….you’re welcome to the community centre between 2pm – 5pm on Wednesday the 3rd of July to enjoy playing some awesome games (kēmu) that are suitable for all levels, that celebrate and give you a chance to practise and learn Te Reo (we’ve got the games: Kaupapa & Tākaro). Enjoy kōrero (conversation) and whanaungatanga (connection) with your hapori (community). Have some pārekareka (fun), while you sip on some homemade kawakawa/lemon/honey/ginger tea and munch back some kumara crisps! We’ll also share ways to support Te Tiriti and the indigenous foundations of our bicultural heritage.
All welcome – whānau friendly!
