THIS INVITE IS FOR THE WAIKANAE SWAP, 22 June😁🌱Everyone is welcome to our CROP SWAP meetings!
1st Saturday of the month – Otaki (1-2pm)
2nd Saturday of the month – Raumati (1-2pm)
3rd Saturday of the month – TBC!!!
4th Saturday of the month – Waikanae (2-3pm)
To be clear, at Crop Swap, we swap more than just crops! We share everything homegrown and homemade: Vegetables, fruits, herbs, plants, seedlings, flowers, seeds, baking, preserves, sauces, jam and all things yummy! You can also bring everything garden and kitchen related like empty containers, tools, labels, planting pots, worm juice, coffee grounds, gardening magazines, cook books, recipes, a SKILL…possibilities are endless.
The key is that this is a cashless event, no koha can offered or accepted.
This is generally how a Crop Swap will run:
2-2.15pm
• People arrive with their crops and put them out on the tables provided.
• You are then free to chat and mingle with your fellow garden enthusiasts, exchange tips, make new friends or just wait until it starts.
2.15-2.45pm
• We conduct a quick briefing outlining the guidelines for swapping.
• If there is not a lot of people, we can listen to anyone who wants to introduce their crop.
• Once everyone has placed their crops we like to do a Karakia to bless the kai. We want to emphasise our values regarding generous giving and mindful taking.
2.45-3pm
• Close out, put away tables and clear the hall.
The meetings will be held regularly on the 2nd Saturday of every month in Raumati and the last Saturday of every month in Waikanae.
Further information:
1. There will be a koha food box for anyone who wants to donate food or seedlings in addition to their swaps. The Crop Swap team will distribute any koha crop and left over crops to local food pantries.
2. If you do not have any crops to swap but need fresh fruit or veges for the next week, you can bring plants, flowers, seedlings, herbs, eggs, preserves, jams, baking, liquid manure, gardening books, magazines, planting containers, sometimes even chooks who need a new home! We want this to be accessible to everyone, especially those who are struggling to put fresh fruit and veges on the table!
