We are honoured to host this extremely special evening with the frontman, since 1980, of a band extremely close to our hearts at the Sound Lounge, Del Amitri. It follows a visit by Justin and Iain Harvie early in 2023 for a screening of the live film 'Every Night Has A Dawn,' after which the whole band returned in the summer to headline Folk In The Park.
Those nights will linger long in the memory, and so will this one. It marks the publication of 'The Tremelo Diaries,' Justin's warm, candid and self-deprecating account of dealing with the immediate aftermath of his Parkinson's diagnosis. Part meditative memoir, part fascinating travelogue of life on the road in the 21st century, it guides us from gig to gig via art galleries, parks, bars and sites of natural beauty. As he contemplates the long-term ramifications both personally and professionally of this incurable and little understood condition, he allows us into a world of love and friendship, life and loss.
Tonight Justin will again be in conversation with music journalist and fellow author Paul Sexton. Their chat will be illustrated by videos and audio of some of the unforgettable music Currie has created, both with Del Amitri and as a solo artist. He will then take some questions from the audience, and the book will be on sale, signed on the night by Justin.
‘I think of this book as a song; an intro, middle eight and an outro with just a hell of a lot of verses in between," he says. "The process proved, though I hate to admit it, therapeutic – a useful way to cure the repetitive tedium of doing the same thing every day but in a different city and with different symptoms. The writing kept me company so for that at the very least I’m grateful. Should anybody else feel similarly I can persuade myself I’ve gotten away with it. Again."
