About this Event

Due to popular demand, one more Graveyard Bat Walk with Steve England!

Steve will show you how to identify the different species of bats to be found in the cemetery and how to listen to the sounds of the bats using “bat detectors”. Although mainly staying to the foot paths around the cemetery, we may be going over uneven ground, so please wear suitable footwear and bring a torch if you have one. If you have your own bat detector, please feel free to bring it with you!

NB.This event will adhere to current covid guidelines, including sanitising of equipment and social distancing. It also falls under an event for Education & Health.

A percentage of tickets sales will go towards making enhancements to Royate Hill Local Nature Reserve.

Early booking is advised as these walks by Steve are immensely popular and sell out very quickly! There is currently a limit of 15 attendees for this Bat Walk.

PLEASE NOTE MEETING POINT (do not go to main entrance to Greenbank Cemetery)

We will be meeting outside the Greenbank View entrance of Royate Hill Local Nature Reserve.

Directions: when turning into Royate Hill from Fishponds Road, take the first right (Edward St) and carry along until you see the cemetery railings on your left. The entrance to the reserve is immediately before the railings.

Please arrive 15 minutes before start of the event as it will begin promptly at 7.15 pm. Many thanks!

Please check emails closer to the day in case of rare event that it is cancelled.

Cancellation/Postponing due to Poor Weather

SE Outdoor Learning events take place outdoors, and therefore unfortunately we may need to be postponed or cancelled in the days leading up to the event if it seems that the weather will be too poor for it to be run safely. We will always aim to confirm cancellation of the event 24 - 48 hours in advance (though on very rare occassions, sudden weather changes may mean its closer than this). Please be aware that there is no guarantee of experiencing bat on the night. Please keep an eye on your emails and Facebook for updates on the event.

COVID UPDATE - PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING

As with other organisations and businesses, SEOL is taking a number of precautions to help keep you and us safe ,and are doing what we can to ensure we can now once again begin running walks and tours in a safe, comfortable and enjoyable way. We are excited to get started again! We have carried out a general COVID risk assessment and rehearsed our walks, and taken other necessary measures including reducing group sizes and ensuring PPE is carried for in emergencies & first aid situations. Steve will also be ensuring he is distanced further than the minimum social distancing recommendation when talking to help reduce transmission risk.

We ask you to please read through the following points before booking and help us all by following these guidelines and making sensible efforts to stay safe before, throughout and after the event. When booking tickets, you agree to following these guidelines.

We will share contact details if requested with NHS Test and Trace. Contact information is stored securely within the Eventbrite booking system. If you feel unwell after the event, you MUST take a test and inform Test and Trace about attendance to the walk so we can pass on details of other attendees.

You must not attend walk if you have any COVID symptoms or feel unwell in any way. We will also be enabling a more flexible refund policy for those who may need to cancel due to Covid symptoms.

You MUST follow social distancing guidelines of 2m between people not within your own household. It is not our job to police this - this is everyones responsibility, please have some common sense and courtesy. We will be taking routes and stopping in locations where social distancing can be maintained.

Please do not touch structures and gates unnecessarily.

You may bring your own precautions if you wish i.e. face masks, although they are not required for the event as long as social distancing is maintained.

Please wash hands before and after attendance, bring hand sanitiser and to follow general health & safety, and hygiene standards.

Please remember this is new and strange for all of us, and requires everyone to play their part in keeping us all safe and being able to enjoy activities once again. We look forward to seeing you on the Graveyard Bat Walk!
