Amazing scenery and some adventurous paths across the South Downs Way: 14 miles/22km. Exploring the village of Hambledon and the historic Old Winchester Hill with views of long rolling hills and wide skies. Some moderate challenging climbs and footpaths.
A new route explored by Back on Track for you. This part of the South Downs Way (Hampshire) is in easy reach from Guildford/Surrey (40min) and its scenery is so different to Surrey.
Starting in the village of Hambledon, we walk across rolling fields. Highlights are the Hambledon Vineyards, is the Old Winchester Hill 130m, which is a Nature Reserve with an Iron Age hill fort and a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). We’ll then head to the St Peter’s Church and Roman Stone Sarcophagus, Soberton before we circle back to the start.
Difficulty: moderate/some longer and some steep climbs & descents
Duration: 5.5-6h approx
Bring: Hiking poles (if you have), hiking boots and clothing layers, plus a packed lunch, snacks, lots of water, money for coffee shop. A torch.

Your guide Liz, is an experienced and qualified hking guide. She has worked in the Swiss Alps, hiked and taught English overseas in South Korea as well as leading groups in the mountains in Thailand. She qualified in South Africa as a hiking guide during her 8 years stay there. She herself is an adventurer and loves to share some of her top survival tips with you.

Please ensure you bring water and snack for the walk. Please wear sturdy shoes; bring waterproofs if necessary. The distance and duration of the walk depends on the group’s pace and weather conditions. We aim for a medium walking pace with several stops, unless advertised in the event description.
