About this Event

Just Eat It, A Food Waste Story
Silvapark Films Inc

We are captivated by cooking shows, food magazines, and blogs that celebrate the culinary world. However, it is alarming to realize that we waste 40% of the food we produce.

Jen and Grant, a couple who are both filmmakers and food enthusiasts, decided to tackle this issue head-on. They explored the problem of food waste from its origins on the farm to its presence in grocery stores, and even in their own refrigerator. Witnessing the staggering amount of perfectly good food being discarded in North America every year, they made a bold commitment to stop grocery shopping altogether and survive solely on food that would otherwise go to waste. This eye-opening experience shed light on the billions of dollars worth of food that is needlessly wasted.

In a country where one in ten people struggle with food insecurity, the images captured by Jen and Grant are both shocking and compelling. As Grant becomes consumed by his mission to rescue discarded food, he discovers that the thrill of finding and saving comes with unexpected consequences.

Through interviews with influential figures such as TED lecturer Tristram Stuart and acclaimed author Jonathan Bloom, the documentary “Just Eat It” delves into our society’s obsession with expiration dates, the pursuit of flawless produce, and the unrealistic portion sizes we have become accustomed to. It uncovers the underlying causes of this seemingly insignificant issue, which is wreaking havoc on a global scale.

“Just Eat It” brings together farmers, retailers, inspiring organizations, and consumers to address this problem. This cinematic journey combines education and entertainment, offering a thought-provoking look at the issue of food waste and its profound impact on our world.
