This dynamic workshop welcomes artists of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned painters. Penix will delve into essential and advanced painting concepts, including the impact of warm and cool tones, the interplay of complementary colors, achieving harmony, mastering edges, and enhancing shape quality and variety. You’ll explore techniques for simplifying compositions, loosening your brushwork, and designing with a clear focus on light, shadow, and the art of suggestion. Throughout, there will be a strong emphasis on creating paintings with three-dimensionality.
Using oils—or your preferred medium—you’ll paint from a variety of compelling photo references, such as boats, cityscapes, figures, birds, or hanging fruit and fish. Alternatively, you can choose to work from your own photographs for a more personal touch.
The workshop is structured to maximize learning: the first half of each day features a full demonstration by Penix, guiding you through his complete painting process. In the second half, you’ll put those lessons into practice with his personalized feedback and guidance. You’re also welcome to bring a previous piece for a constructive critique, gaining insights to elevate your work to the next level.
