Step into a real professional kitchen and discover the joy of cooking! Led by Chef Peter Handy and sponsored by the Tasmanian Hospitality Association, this hands-on workshop at Drysdale House (TasTAFE) lets budding chefs create and plate restaurant-worthy dishes while learning insider tricks of the trade.With two age groups (8–12 yrs and 13–17 yrs), all skill levels are welcome. Participants will pair up, cook and enjoy their creations together (or take home to share with the fam) in a fun, supportive environment.
Proudly presented by Teen Challenge Tasmania, a local not-for-profit to support young people, this event not only builds practical culinary skills but also supports young people with opportunities to grow in confidence, creativity and community connection.
Two Sessions Available:

👨🍳 Ages 13–17: 1:00pm – 3:30pm

Places are limited so book your place now!
If your child requires support, you or their support worker is able to attend with them to be in the space and stay for the whole session or as long as thay/you need to feel safe, you will not need to purchase a ticket as a support person. We will gather this information in contact once your childs tickets are purchased.
Participants will work in pairs, feel free to connect friends/siblings when getting tickets. If your young person does not have a pair, we will match them and help support the connection on the day with another participant.
About Chef Peter Handy
Peter Handy is a Tasmanian chef, trainer, and mentor with more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Starting his career as an apprentice at Sydney’s Regent Hotel, he went on to hold senior roles including Head Chef at the Kingston Hotel and event chef at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed.
Today, Peter is recognised for his work in training and workforce development. As a trainer and assessor with Work and Training and the Tasmanian Hospitality Association, he delivers accredited courses in cookery, food and beverage, barista skills, and RSA, while also engaging schools and young people through hospitality awareness programs.
Passionate about community, Peter works with the Migrant Resource Centre and leads Friends of Refugees Community Tasmania, supporting migrants and refugees to build new careers. His approachable teaching style, industry knowledge, and commitment to youth development make him a valued leader in Tasmania’s hospitality sector.

Teen Challenge Tasmania is a Christian, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to preventing youth addiction, crime and disengagement. Since 2015, we’ve provided holistic support through education, mentoring, skills training and safe spaces that help young people build resilience, belonging, connection and hope for the future.
