The American Literacy Corporation announces Juneteenth Celebration at the Ballpark at The Harrisburg Senators Game, Saturday, June 15. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. Select festivities will begin at 5:00 p. m. at the park. Juneteenth at the Ballpark will feature:
• Gospel Choir
• African American authors
• Facts about Juneteenth
• African Dancers
• Special ticketing
• Black Excellence Awards
• Wear your Favorite African Garb
• Singing the Black National Anthem
• Negro League Baseball Recognition
• Special regular attendance tickets
• Black Family Picnic (in the picnic area. Food will be available 1 hour before and 30 minutes into the game. The cost is $29 per person.
Juneteenth, June 19th is the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, TX in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. This was two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is considered the longest-running African American holiday. Juneteenth became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021.
