The sixth annual Potsdam community-wide Juneteenth Celebration will be held on Saturday June 21 2025 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ives Park Gazebo behind the hotel and public parking lot at 1 Main St. in Potsdam. All are invited to attend. Please check the Facebook page for possible schedule changes!
This free family-friendly event celebrates the culture of African-Americans and provides a space for Black voices to be honored in the community.
A FREE meal for all consisting of heritage-rich foods traditional to Juneteenth will be catered by Big Spoon Kitchen and traditional Red Drank from the Potsdam Food Co-Op.
The public is invited to learn about Juneteenth African-American culture and local history through entertainment exhibitors displays and brief historical presentations.
There will be lots of live music (last year by DJ Fresh1 and headliners Trumptight315 an R&B Funk band with a twist) and other local and downstate featured artists!)
Lift Every Voice & Sing will be performed and there will be drumming dancing a little Electric Slide/Cupid Shuffle and fun for all ages. Sound is provided by Barker Productions.
The program and events also include many children's activities a bounce house from Capture Culture and a Black Is Beautiful Fashion Show which welcomes more participants by emailing [email protected].
All are welcome to bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket and enjoy good food fun for the kids and entertainment.
Juneteenth is Freedom Day for African-Americans a celebration to mark the day when the last remaining American slaves learned they were finally free from bondage in Galveston Texas on June 19 1865 over two years after President Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
