Cultivating Home & Community: Sacred Space as Incarnational Mission
Isolation permeates our hyper-individualistic culture. When we at MLF say that the primary cause of homelessness is a profound, catastrophic loss of family, we are describing a brokenness that affects us all, whether or not we have secure housing. We believe we are called to live in community and relationship with Him through each other, and we are excited to invite potential replicators of our model to join us at the next Symposium for Goodness’ Sake. Those passionate about transforming the landscape of homelessness where they live will be empowered by the paradigm-breaking, faith-based approach to caring for the chronically homeless with compassion and dignity that we call Community First!
Calling Christian Faith Partners: Churches, Church Planters, and Ministries.
In this first-of-its-kind customization of our standard Symposium for Goodness’ Sake, we will focus primarily on the context of our faith partners: churches, ministries, and church planters. Mobile Loaves & Fishes will bring together a lineup of speakers including staff, missionals, and faith community leaders, plus the leader of a trusted organization who has successfully replicated the Community First! Model. Those who visit the Village often comment on how they sense the Kingdom of God here. This Symposium will illuminate the theological dimensions of the Community First! call to build sacred spaces that welcome people out of homelessness and into “homefulness,” as well as connect you to other faith leaders who are exploring replicating the Community First! Model.
The Symposium is far more than a simple overview of Mobile Loaves & Fishes and Community First! Village. Through presentations, interactive talks & panels, and the most in-depth tour available of the Village, the MLF team and featured guest speakers will be sharing more than two and a half decades’ worth of experience and insight. Topics will include MLF organizational culture, biblical foundations, leadership, community outreach, neighbor care and the approach that makes Mobile Loaves & Fishes' work unique and distinctively effective, and an embodied expression of the gospel in the midst of “the least of these.”
For those interested in bringing the Community First! model back to their own cities, the Symposium for Goodness' Sake is the indispensable first step on your journey. It also provides the foundation needed to participate in the Community First! Replication Pathway that we created to support leaders and organizations committed to the complex, faith-building, and fulfilling endeavor of transforming your community. We invite you to jump in!
To get the complete Village experience we encourage all attendees to stay onsite at the Village in our Community Inn. The Symposium For Goodness’ Sake Eventbrite ticket does NOT automatically include lodging, as we only have a limited number of units available at this time. However, we encourage attendees to explore available units and book their accommodations online at The Community Inn.
