Union Ave Books is excited to present a Poetry Night in celebration of First Fridays, featuring Emily Jalloul, Nome Emeka Patrick, and Catherine Garbinsky. This event will take place on July 5th from 6-8pm at our bookstore. This is a free event. Please RSVP via the ticket link.
Catherine Garbinsky is a 2nd year PhD student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where they now serve as the poetry editor for Grist. Catherine has written two chapbooks: All Spells Are Strong Here (Ghost City Press, 2018) and Even Curses End (Animal Heart Press, 2019), and her work has been featured in Yes Poetry, Bustle, Coffin Bell Journal, Cream City Review, and elsewhere.
Nome Emeka Patrick is a Nigerian poet and Cave Canem Fellow. His works have been published or forthcoming in POETRY, AGNI, The Journal, Narrative, TriQuarterly, Waxwing, Hayden's Ferry Review, Poet Lore, Black Warrior Review, and elsewhere. A Best of the Net, Best New Poets, and Pushcart prize nominee. He emerged third place in the Frontier Poetry Award for New Poets, 2020. His manuscript 'We Need a New Moses. Or New Luther King' was a finalist for the 2019 Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poets. He has an MFA from Brown University and is currently a PhD student at the University of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Emily Jalloul is a Lebanese-American poet who earned her PhD in English and Creative Writing from the University of Tennessee. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in What Things Cost: an anthology for the people, Oxford American, Arkansas International, and others.
