July Field Day - Planting at Gemtree

It’s time to set the Sunday alarm again. Although there’s no need to be alarmed. Well, there is actually, but let’s not go there….

Instead, let’s get out amongst it again and get a bit more planting dirt under our nails. In my case I’ll be adding it to the dirt that’s still under there from our day at Shingleback. What a cracker that was. I love mud.

This month we’re going back to Gemtree to continue the marvellousity of what we’ve already done at this site. 9am on Sunday July 3 at Hamilton Rd out near McLaren Flat (NOT the cellar door). We’ve been here before, but the Yellow Cocky sign will be out and glowing in the gloom to help you find your way in case you’re feeling cartographically challenged.

The order of the day is planting – we have about 1,600 tubes to put in the ground and to stake, guard and mulch. There’ll be plenty to do for everyone no matter your height, your age or how badly you behaved the night before. And the augers are being fired up to drill holes as we speak.

You’ll need to dress for it (frocks optional, gentlemen, with leggings for warmth and modesty) and you may want to bring a water bottle. Or gloves. Or a digging trowel or a stake knocking hammer. Or one of each or none. Your call.

And when we’ve finished our work, we’ll stop and do something else. With a biodynamic flavour.

This month we’re also putting out a call to those of you who’ve previously been to a Field Day (or maybe even two) but have then wandered off the true path. Please come back. We miss you. We want you. We need you. (Oh oh, I think I’m gonna break into song again….) So, if that’s you, pull your bloody finger out, get on your bike and get amongst it. It’ll be more fun that watching the election night coverage.
