On July 15, the 3rd Monday of the month, join us at the Villa Montezuma at 7 PM for The Story of the Code!One evening each month, Cinballera hosts its own monthly opera night, Cinballera Salon: Opera at the Villa! We're collaborating with the historic Villa Montezuma Museum at 1925 K Street, San Diego in the historic Sherman Heights Historic District. July will be Salon's fifth month.
This month will be a special concert about an untold chapter of Hollywood history. Using classical songs, the Brannan sisters will tell the story of the Code, the key to the Golden Era of Hollywood. Along the way, they'll be joined by select guest singers to paint the picture. This is based on a concert the sisters performed six years ago, long before they started Cinballera Entertainment. This concert will be unique because it will tell a whole story and will feature costume changes!
We call this series Cinballera Salon because it is a loving tribute to the musical salons of years past, when friends would gather in lovely parlor to enjoy sharing music for an evening. Hosted the third week of the month, each evening will have a different theme. Music on the program will include opera arias, art songs, and other classical vocal music, performed by talented operatic singers from throughout the region. There is a special emphasis on duets, trios, and other ensembles, to recreate opera scenes in an intimate setting.
In keeping with this mansion's gracious history, we encourage our guests to use this as an excuse to dress up for an evening out! Gentlemen, dust off your favorite suit and tie, and ladies, here's a chance to wear that dress and hat you've been saving! In keeping with the theme, the suggested style guide is inspiration from the Golden Era of Hollywood, 1930s-50s. Take inspiration from your favorite old time movie star or classic film character. Show off your Old Hollywood glamour!
No tickets; admittance with a donation (suggested amount $25 per person). All the proceeds support the two non-profit organizations, Cinballera and Friends of the Villa Montezuma, and pay the performers.
