Join Julio Torres-Recinos for the launch of his short story collection Aurora, Afterwards, and Other Stories (previously published as Con Aurora después y otros cuentos), with guest host Jeannette Lynes.
This event will be held in the Travel Alcove and as a simultaneous YouTube stream.
Aurora, Afterwards, and Other Stories is a collection of sixteen short-stories written between 1986-2016. Some of the stories take place in El Salvador during the civil war (1980-1992), while others take place during the post-war era. There are stories that take place in Canada, the United States, and other countries. Very often, the characters are immigrants who have to adapt to a new life in the host country, which can be difficult for some people. These stories are written in the realist style, to transport the reader to the time and place depicted in the narratives.
Julio Torres-Recinos writes poetry and short stories. He has published several books of poetry and a book of short-stories. He has given poetry recitals in many countries such as Spain, Germany, Italy, the United States, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Australia. In 1992, he won the First Poetry Prize in a competition organized by the Spanish Cultural Celebration in Toronto, Ontario, and has been finalist in several literary competitions. He is Professor of Spanish at the University of Saskatchewan.
Jeanette Lynes is the author of four novels and seven books of poetry. Her most recent novel is The Paper Birds (HarperCollins Canada). Her non-fiction book Apron Apocalypse: Lyric Essays is forthcoming in 2026. She directs the MFA on Writing at the University of Saskatchewan.
