Mijn hele leven heb ik met componisten een nauwe en inspiratievolle samenwerking gehad. De allereerste kennismaking met het proces van componeren was als kind dankzij mijn vader. Later tijdens mijn carrière bleek ik heel gemakkelijk contacten te kunnen leggen en vriendschap te kunnen sluiten met componisten. Er was sprake van een wederzijds begrip en inspiratie. Zo zijn in de loop van de tijd meerdere stukken voor solo viool ontstaan die speciaal voor mij zijn geschreven. Ook voor dit project schreven drie componisten nieuwe muziek voor mij. Het voelt daarom heel bijzonder deze stukken voor mijn CD 'D a r k V e l v e t' op te nemen en ze zo onder de aandacht te brengen van een breed publiek. Ik hoop deze composities een 'leven te geven' en natuurlijk ook de kans deel te worden van het hedendaagse repertoire voor viool solo.Dit project is zeer persoonlijk en heeft een sterk autobiografisch karakter.
De componisten zijn net als ikzelf van Servische/Nederlandse bodem. Het is daardoor een symbolische brug tussen mijn twee thuislanden en de daarbij behorende culturen.
Novi Sad (Servië), de stad waar ik geboren ben, is de Culturele hoofdstad van Europa 2022. Het thema dat daarvoor is gekozen is ‘Bruggen’, dat op verschillende manieren gestalte krijgt. In Juni 2022 geef ik in Novi Sad een CD-presentatie en een concert in het kader van deze culturele manifestatie waarmee ik inhoud geef aan het centrale thema als iemand die, afkomstig uit Novi Sad, een brug heeft geslagen naar een andere cultuur.
Naast het uitvoeren van bovengenoemd repertoire, ben ik zeer gedreven om het hele proces van componeren en uitvoeren van nieuwe muziek dichter bij het publiek te brengen in een door mij bedachte vorm van ‘muziek-journaling’ en video presentaties. Op YouTube heb ik daartoe een channel aangemaakt: Creating 'Dark Velvet'.

Julija Hartig and Reineke Broekhans introduce 'D a r k V e l v e t'
From an early age on, thanks to the fact that my father was a cellist and composer himself, I experienced the creative process and very close collaboration on writing pieces for my instrument, violin.
Later on in my life, the connection to composers came always very easy and natural, and through my career as a violinist as a result of that mutual understanding, several pieces were written for me.
My wish is to make them all a part of the CD ‘D a r k V e l v e t’ and in that way present them to the world and give them ‘life’ and a chance to be heard and recognised as part of a violinistic repertoire.
In addition to the selection of already composed music from 1990 on, three new works are currently being written for me especially as a part of this project. It makes me very excited to bring this process closer to the audience through a video diary and journaling. My wish is to connect music that is being created as we speak, with the audience and give the listener an opportunity and guidance to get introduced to the language of new music. I use ‘D a r k V e l v e t’ as a synonym for the sound before music, that due to the opportunity of being close enough to the process of its creation, I learned to speak.
The compositions on this CD could be seen as an autobiographical story. It is a reflection of my Yugoslav and Dutch identity which is a mirror of my musical world. As Novi Sad (Serbia), is the cultural capital of Europe in 2022, my wish is to implement this CD release and take it on a tour to the city I come from.
