It’s been a long time (try 13 years) since Julia Deans last played on the island, so it’s with great delight that she announces a one-off show at Waiheke’s much-loved Artworks Theatre.
Beginning her career as the frontwoman for Fur Patrol, Julia has cemented her place as one of Aotearoa’s most iconic performers. Her solo albums have been embraced with critical acclaim, and this performance celebrates the reissue of her album Modern Fables on vinyl.
Her first solo release marked a departure from the driving rock and anthemic sonic journeys created with Fur Patrol.
While there are still moments of rock grandeur, the album revealed a more introspective, acoustic-pop side to her songwriting. At times tinged with folk, at others pure balladry, Modern Fables showcases a musical storytelling style that moves and inspires.
Alongside songs from Modern Fables, Julia will also be performing new works from an upcoming album, as well as gems and rarities from her extensive back catalogue — including Fur Patrol favourites.
