About this Event
A flamenco juerga is a party and a jam session for those passionate about flamenco. If you are new to flamenco it is the best way to soak up the rhythm and energy of the improvised side of this rich and complex art form. If you are experienced, come jump in the circle with a patada por bulerias or tangos, dance Sevillanas, join in with guitar, and more! And if you don't know what any of those terms mean, come and enjoy as an observer until you feel ready to join the action!
Just like a party, BYOB, and bring some snacks to share if you like!
Juerga Ettiquete:
Each juerga will have a hired singer and guitarist to get the party started! Flamenco singers and guitarists are welcome to join in, but only musicians hired or invited to do so will be invited to plug into the sound system for the first 90 minutes of the juerga. In this way musicians who are novice, visiting or apprenticing will be able to follow along and contribute without ovewhelming the sound system.
Likewise, anyone playing palmas should know that the muted hand clapping is appropriate for anyone who isn't a seasoned professional. Loud hand clapping should be reserved to those very confident and practiced in palmas and used sparingly according to the dynamics of the music. We will be present to help guide you and answer any questions you have about this, please ask us!
