- About Juan -
Originally from Trujillo, Venezuela, oboist Juan José Fernández Villegas began his musical studies at the age of eight through Venezuela’s El Sistema. He trained with José Luis Cegarra and Luis Daniel Márquez before continuing his studies with Scot Bell, William Wielgus, and Joseph Robinson. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance here at Lynn, in the studio of Nathan Hughes.
Juan has held principal and section positions with the Sinfónica de Maracaibo, Orquesta de la Juventud Zuliana, the Lynn Philharmonia, and was a member of the National Oboe Academy of Venezuela. He has performed in master classes with Philip Tondre, Ryan Roberts, Frank Rosenwein, Robert Walters, Titus Underwood, and Scott Hostetler. In addition to his performing career, Juan serves as a music teacher and dance choreographer at Melissa & Starling’s Performing Arts and as woodwind faculty at Bethel Junior Academy. Outside of music, he enjoys movies, playing sports, and baking.
