The Joy of BeadweavingChenille Stitch
This week we’re diving into the beautiful and versatile Chenille stitch! Originally credited to Belgian designer Geneviève Liebaert, Chenille is a brilliant combination of alternating rows of peyote and herringbone stitch.
Once you understand the two-row repeat, the rhythm becomes wonderfully intuitive and the piece grows quickly. The result is a supple, dimensional tube with incredible texture and movement, perfect for beaded beads, bracelets, necklaces, and even threading onto earring hoops.
One of the joys of Chenille is its flexibility with bead combinations. Try:
• 2+ colors of 11° seed beads
• 11°s and 15°s
• 8°s and 11°s
• 8°s and 2mm crystals
• 11°s and 2mm crystals
And great timing — we have a new shipment of 2mm rondelles arriving, so you’ll have fresh sparkle to play with!
Keep in mind: the smaller your largest bead, the more delicate (and narrower) your finished tube will be.
Sample details:
• Gold & metallic blue necklace: 8°s and 11°s
• Cream & multicolor bracelet: 11°s and 2mm rondelles
• Red & silver set: 8°s and 11°s
