About this Event
Journeying Together: an Intergenerational Pilgrimage and Cross-Currents workshop
As part of our exhibition Cross-Currents, you are warmly invited to join us for a pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral on Thursday 31st October.
You can make your pilgrimage as long or as short as you wish, whether it is a gentle stroll from the Westgate Gardens or the full 10 miles from St Mary’s Chilham, either way we welcome you to journey together following in the footsteps of pilgrims before us as we head for Canterbury.
Alternately, you can hop on the train and walk just a section but do join us in whatever way suits you.
Please see below the times when you would be able to join us, what points we will be stopping at along the way, how long each leg of the pilgrimage is and what the terrain is like. The most accessible sections are from Chilham church to the station, along the river Stour to Westgate gardens and on to the Cathedral. There’s something for everyone.
We gather in the Precincts of Canterbury Cathedral for a picnic lunch which we invite you to bring along.
Following this there is an opportunity to participate in a workshop led by the artist behind the Cross-Current's exhbtion - Frances Carlile - during which you will be able to create your own boats from the bits and pieces collected before and during the walk.
At the end of the day, the pilgrimage boats will be added to the main fleet within the Cathedral as a symbol of your day’s pilgrimage and the longer journey of life.
