Breakout Sessions
Session 1- Healing Through Awareness: Trauma, Self- Care and Mental Wellness
Host: Kaitlyn Nieves
Info: Trauma and stress impact every aspect of our lives, our emotions, relationships, and our physical health. Understanding how trauma affects the mind and body is the first step toward healing. But awareness alone isn’t enough; practicing self-care, setting boundaries, and cultivating mindfulness are essential tools for resilience and recovery.
In this presentation, Kaitlyn Nieves and Tyisha Wright will guide participants through the fundamentals of trauma, stress management, and self-care. They will explore the science behind mindfulness, the importance of a trauma-informed approach, and practical strategies to enhance well-being in both personal and professional spaces.
Attendees will leave with an understanding of how trauma manifests, tools to navigate stress and burnout, and actionable steps to prioritize self-care and mental health. This is not just about surviving, it’s about thriving.
This will be an engaging and transformative discussion on healing, resilience, and the power.
Session 2 – Rest, Resist, Heal: A Mental Health Conversation for Black Women
Host: Madine Despeine-Udoh
Info: Black women have long been expected to embody strength and resilience, often at the expense of their own well-being. While navigating the pressures of society, systemic barriers, and historical trauma, many Black women find themselves prioritizing others while neglecting their own mental health.
Madine Despeine- Udoh and Rachel Haley will explore the intersection of race, gender, and mental health, shedding light on the unique challenges Black women face. They will discuss the impact of trauma, the realities of accessing care, and the harmful myths that contribute to stigma. More importantly, they will focus on strategies for rest, resistance, and healing—creating a path toward self-care, support, and emotional well-being. This is more than just a presentation—it’s a space to embrace mental wellness, challenge outdated narratives, and cultivate a culture where Black women can truly thrive. Join us in this essential discussion as we reclaim rest, resist stigma, and heal together.
