Episode 5: Don’s Mission to the Chinese
The work of Rev Alexander Don and the Cantonese Villages Mission give us an insight into the livelihoods of the Otago Chinese community. Don also has close connections with the Lo Keongs - the first Chinese family established in Dunedin.
Episode 6: Merchants
Chinese merchants escorted the miners from Victoria and later Guangdong. Often their returns exceeded those of their gold-seeking countrymen. Usually their motives remained the same - to send relief funds back to China.
