**Josh Joplin live at Eddie's Attic!**Josh Joplin, is not given to reminiscing much about the glory days of chasing a song around the world. Camera One notched up the charts making it the first independently released song to land #1 at Triple A Top 40 on legendary showbiz titan's, Daniel Glass and Danny Goldberg, storied label, Artemis Records, (J. Mascis, Steve Earle, The Pretenders, Kittie, AND infamous hit makers, The BaHa Men)... Though Josh never quite “let the dogs out” with his only hit, it is featured on the cult classic, Scrubs. He followed it up in 2002 with The Future That Was produced by Rob Gal (Magnapop, Rock-a-Teens) and later the critically praised albums, Jaywalker, Among The Oak & Ash, and Devil Ship. Recently, Joplin has returned to recording music with his friends and collaborators. Their latest effort is, Figure Drawing. Joplin will also soon be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of his album Useful Music (featuring “Camera One”).
In Spring of 2023 Josh released, Figure Drawing. Joining him were Fats Kaplin (Jack White’s string wizard), Bryan Owings (Emmylou Harris’s drummer), Allen Broyles (keyboardist for Josh Joplin Group) and Wes Langlois (the guitarist who co-wrote two songs with Joplin).
The wait is over. Josh Joplin, one of the most striking songwriters and bandleaders of the early 21st century, is releasing his first full-length album in ten years. Figure Drawing, which will be released by Narrowmoat on May 1st, 2023, features eleven new compositions by Joplin and a sound that combines his roots in folk music and his past success as an indie-rocker without shortchanging either development.
This is the third album credited to Among the Oak & Ash, the name of Joplin’s folk-rock collective since 2009. Joining the lead singer-guitarist this time are Fats Kaplin (Jack White’s string wizard), Bryan Owings (Emmylou Harris’s drummer), Allen Broyles (longtime keyboardist for the Josh Joplin Group) and Wes Langlois (the guitarist who co-wrote two songs with Joplin).
Figure Drawing is the eleventh full-length album of new songs that Joplin has released since 1989.
All of Joplin’s experiences, from his early days as a Dylanesque troubadour to his mid-career success as an indie-rocker, are reflected in this new recording, the broadest, deepest and most balanced of his career. - Geoffrey Himes (Washington Post)
Vogue Magazine praised their songs as a "lush reimagining of Appalachian folk music” while TimeOut London called their high energy live shows “…a must see!” They’ve performed on NPR’s Mountain Stage, and World Café. Joplin's song "Blue Skies Again" covered by Jessica Lea Mayfield and according to Pitchfork’s review, it’s “…a sunny reassuring song with a simple infectious chorus makes it a standout…”
