Josephine Baker: From Creole Goddess to Siren of the Resistance is a captivating and historically rich cabaret that brings to life the extraordinary journey of Josephine Baker—and her rise from a St. Louis waif to an international star to her courageous work as a World War II spy and civil rights advocate.
With sold-out performances at the National World War II Museum’s BB’s Stage Door Canteen in New Orleans, this dynamic show, featuring acclaimed performer Anaïs St. John, is now ready to engage and inspire new audiences in the city where in August, 1963 Ms. Baker – wearing her Free French uniform emblazoned with her medal of the Légion d'Honneur – was the lone female speaker alongside Dr. King as he prepared to deliver his "I Have a Dream" speech to more than 250,000.
Backed by a talented team of artists, including scriptwriter Denise Altobello and musical director Harry Mayronne, this production offers a spellbinding blend of music, history, and timeless storytelling that will resonate with audiences at Studio K. Anais St. John's riveting performance will move her audiences to both cheers and tears as she reveals the woman behind the iconic banana skirt. Written by Denise Altobello with Musical Director Harry Mayronne.
